Dieter Soltmann studied brewing at TUM’s Weihenstephan campus, graduating as an engineer and master brewer. He remained deeply attached to his alma mater, returning to TUM to earn a doctorate in engineering. Always keenly interested and deeply dedicated to the development of TUM, he supported the university for many years of his life as a member of various committees and later as Chair of the TUM Board of Trustees. As a benefactor, his generous donations also furthered the work of the TUM University Foundation. He was held in high esteem as President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) for Munich and Upper Bavaria, as Managing Partner of the Spaten-Franziskaner brewery, and as President of the Economic Advisory Council (Wirtschaftsbeirat) of Bavaria – a role he held for many years. His services to the economy of the State of Bavaria met with the highest acclaim, and in 1998 he was awarded the Golden Medal of Honor for his extraordinary services to the City of Munich.
The TUM University Foundation has lost a great supporter, who will be sadly missed both as a person and as a valued participant. We will honor and cherish the memory of Senator Soltmann.
